Abstract: This layer represents Safety Zones as specified by the National Archives and Records Administration Code of Federal Regulations, Title 33 parts 147 and 165 pertaining to the United States Coast Guard.
-
Purpose: The purpose of this data is to provide a map layer containing Safety Zones for the United States as contained in the Code of Federal Regulation documentation. A Safety Zone is a water area, shore area, or water and shore area to which, for safety or environmental purposes, access is limited to authorized persons, vehicles, or vessels. It may be stationary and described by fixed limits or it may be described as a zone around a vessel in motion. Safety zones may be established around OCS facilities being constructed, maintained, or operated on the Outer Continental Shelf to promote the safety of life and property on the facilities, their appurtenances and attending vessels, and on the adjacent waters within the safety zones.
